The BCCI’s Junior Cricket Committee has announced the Indian U19 team for the tour of South Africa. The Indian Under-19 team will play a three-match ODI series in South Africa. Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been appointed captain of the Indian team for this series. The Junior Cricket Committee has selected the team not only for the South Africa tour but also with an eye on the 2026 Under-19 World Cup. The ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup is scheduled to be held from January 15 to February 6, 2026, in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
It’s worth noting that Ayush Mhatre will captain India in the 2026 Under-19 World Cup. However, he is currently injured and will need time to recover completely. This is why Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been given the captaincy for the three-match ODI series against South Africa before the World Cup. This is Vaibhav’s first time captaining the team.
Ayush Mhatre and Vihaan Malhotra have sustained wrist injuries and will not be able to participate in the tour of South Africa. Both players will head to the BCCI Centre of Excellence for further treatment of their injuries and will join the team for the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup.
The Indian U19 team will play a three-match ODI series in South Africa under the captaincy of Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The first ODI will be played on January 3rd, the second on January 5th, and the third on January 7th. All matches will be played at Willowmoore Park.
